A Brief History of Our Sponsoring Body – Kiangsu Chekiang and Shanghai Residents (Hong Kong) Association

Kiangsu Chekiang and Shanghai Residents (Hong Kong) Association has contributed much to the educational settings in Hong Kong.

The Association is has set its foundations in Hong Kong for more than 60 years. Ever since its establishment, the Association has helped thousands of beneficiaries in different aspects of their lives with its aim to serve the community in Hong Kong.

The Association has established three secondary schools and one primary school cum kindergarten. Kiangsu & Chekiang Primary School was founded in 1953 and the international section and kindergarten were added to the Primary School in 1993 and 1999 respectively. Using Putonghua as the medium of instruction (MOI) is one of the teaching characteristics of Kiangsu & Chekiang Primary School. It is one of the first few pioneers to promote the use of Putonghua as the MOI. Since then, the use of Putonghua as the MOI has become the teaching tradition of all the schools established by the Association. Kiangsu-Chekiang College was founded in 1958 and is now a direct subsidy secondary school. Due to the Government's need to develop new towns in the New Territories, the Association has established Kiangsu-Chekiang College (Sha Tin) in 1978 and Kiangsu-Chekiang College (Kwai Chung) in 1982. Both of them are government subsidized secondary schools.

Since 1974, the Association has set up grants and loans to help students further their studies. Apart from this, the Association has set up different scholarships for students who excel in their studies.

School History

Kiangsu-Chekiang College (Kwai Chung) is the third secondary school established by Kiangsu Chekiang and Shanghai Residents (Hong Kong) Association in Hong Kong. Founded in 1982, our school was a government aided English secondary school located in Kwai Chung. In line with the language policy of mother-tongue teaching set by the government in 1998, our school had gradually switched to using Chinese as the MOI. By 2000, mother tongue teaching has been fully adopted and this has constituted a remarkable improvement in students’ achievements.

“Orderly and Respectful” is our school motto. Following our school motto, our school is committed to providing students with an all-round education which places equal attention on intellectual and moral development, stresses equal importance of learning Chinese and English, attaches equal significance to arts and sciences, and lays equal emphasis on further studies and career pursuits.

In 1996, our school formed a sister school with Nanyang Model High School in Shanghai. The excellent academic status of our sister school has been able to inspire teachers and students of our school to work harder and forward together through various academic exchanges. In 1997, the Parent Teacher Association was officially set up to enhance the communication between parents and our school.
